The Content and Contributor Intelligence (CCI) team at Yelp is looking for a remote leader to help this amazing team. As an Engineering Manager, you’ll lead the group in building machine-learning models to find the most valuable information about the millions of businesses Yelp serves. In turn, this data is provided to Yelp consumers, making us the most trusted and informative platform for everyone.

 

This opportunity is fully remote and does not require you to be located in any particular area in Canada. We welcome applicants from throughout Canada. 

What you'll do:

  • Manage a team of engineers focused on building Machine Learning models to extract information from raw content like Text, Photos and Videos and share that information online and offline
  • Coach and mentor engineers of all experience levels, from new college graduates to senior engineers.
  • Participate in the hiring process, helping to find potential candidates, interviewing, and closing new hires
  • Foster and grow a fun, diverse and inclusive culture that reflects Yelp’s values.
  • Work closely with our infrastructure teams to ensure we use the right systems (storage, compute, networking) for scaling a model most effectively.
  • Ensure model quality by reviewing ML models and ML development processes for team members.
  • Participate in discussions surrounding future applications and/or systems regarding their appropriateness of solution.
  • Foster and build a fun, diverse, and inclusive culture that reflects Yelp’s values.

What it takes to succeed:

  • Previous experience as a manager with excellent people management skills and the ability to hire and grow a talented team of engineers.
  • Experience building Computer Vision models that can process user submitted images to extract useful information.
  • Experience building Natural Language Processing models that can extract information from text content like user reviews.
  • Experience using LLMs to develop features based on text and / or images
  • Experience with building effective services that serve inferred content to clients.
  • Have command of your favorite modern programming language: Python, Ruby, Java, Objective-C, C++, etc.
  • Comfortable working and coordinating requirements across teams.

What you'll get:

  • The top end of the compensation range for this role exceeds $200,000 annually. There are a variety of factors that go into determining a compensation range, including but not limited to external market benchmark data and years of experience. The actual compensation offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience and skill set. You may also be offered restricted stock units and benefits.

  • This opportunity has the option to be fully remote in all locations across Canada.
